Founder Mary Martin Niepold was honored at Wake Forest University on April 15. She received the 2009-2010 “Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award for a Faculty Venture” for her work with The Nyanya Project. The award was presented by Dr. Betsy Gatewood, head of the Wake Forest University Center for Entrepreneurship, and Sydney Kitson, a Wake Forest grad who was awarded for his entrepreneurship as a Florida developer. Kitson, a former NFL player, recently announced his latest development venture in a New York Times story on the same day as the awards banquet. Kitson will construct the nation’s first 100 percent solar-powered, all-smart grid, sustainable city in Florida. Niepold, who also graduated from Wake Forest, currently teaches journalism and writing at the University and travels to Africa twice yearly to visit and develop Nyanya Project programs for grandmothers and their AIDS orphaned grandchildren.

Its about time! Only people like I, who are involved in similar work that you do, understand the impact of any assistance given to these disenfranchised, but good hearted folk. Congratulations!
